There are decades where nothing happens, and there are weeks where decades happen. Nothing is the same, and nothing will be the same. Time seems to stand still and run at an unprecedented speed at the same time.
However, we are mortals. As long as we’re here, it is essential to do everything we can to live as well as possible. And while the whole world is on the verge of collapse, there are many things we have to improve that are strictly up to us.
Everything you come in contact with has the power to influence you in a way or another. Even so, it appears that some of us are more likely to be affected by external events than some others. While I think it is impossible to be 100% impassive regarding what happens around you, this does not mean that at any significant paradigm shift, you have to accept to be low and negligent.
The world will never stop. That’s for sure. Moreover, we should not be so easy to move either. Life is beautiful, even with its ups and downs. But for you, to be able to see the beauty of this world, you first have to give up the things that pull you down.
“You have power over your min, not outside events. Realize this, and you will find strength.” Marcus Aurelius
2020 was a year like no other. In terms of opportunities, it was huge. If you want to make your 2021 a better year than 2020, then do well and regain control over the things you can control.
At the same time, decide once and for all what you want to take with you and what you want to leave behind. I suggest you start with the things below.
1. Let Go of Attachments
Start learning to enjoy now fully of everything you currently have. While many people would admit that they would be more than happy to have a bigger house or to buy a newer car, all these material possessions will not contribute definitively to your happiness.
Instead, the detachment from the job you hold with your teeth, giving up the countless clothes you haven’t worn for so long, or accepting that the present moment is more precious than anything else will make you see the world differently.
Letting go of attachments will help you see that nothing is permanent and at the same time everything can change in a split of a second. Accept these things and external events will no longer seem to you global catastrophes, no matter how great they may be.
2. Get Rid of Fears
Fear is the most powerful weapon of those who want to control you. At the same time, love is the most powerful weapon of those who do not want to be controlled.
If there is one thing you should have learned in 2020, then this is it. Fear never leads to positive outcomes. Do you remember a time when fear helped you to get over something? I don’t think so.
2021 is the perfect year to eliminate fears and leave them behind forever, especially when countless reports highlight the harmful effects of fear on the human body.
3. Stop Focusing on Things You Can’t Control
You already know there are many things in this world you can’t control, but you still pay attention to them. Why?
With the emergence and development of the Internet globally, humankind’s problems seem to have multiplied. This is because we are more exposed than ever. Therefore, our problems have started to be more visible.
What has not changed, however, are the things over which we have full control. They remained the same, more or less.
Politics will always be a double-edged sword. Your favourite football team will not win the championship every year. The weather will not always be the same. This year’s MasterChef will not be chosen based on your positive thoughts sent to him or her telepathically.
Then, if you already know these things, why are you so stressed?
People Who Have Succeeded in Life Have Not Succeeded by Chance
If we look at the common man, we can quickly realize that he is still full of fears. As if he had something to lose. Today, more than ever, life continues to prove that if you do not live when it’s time, you might as well no longer live ever again.
Life is just a long series of events that take place over the course of a day. If you do not intend to improve your days, then your life will remain unchanged. And if you do not let go of the things that keep you stuck, you will get nowhere.
“Life is balance of holding on and letting go.” Rumi
You don’t need justification for your actions, as well for your thoughts. Everyone’s different, and that’s ok. Instead, you need to look more at yourself and accept yourself the way you are.
If you let go of attachments, get rid of fears, and stop focusing on things you can’t control you will soon realize that there is no other real impediment to living your life the way you want.
This is not a year like any other. This is a year of an unprecedented change. But to be so, you have to focus on yourself.

Having and sharing are two different things which complement each other wonderfully.
