Building a Writing Business While Working a 9 to 5 Job
Somebody needs to do it and it’s all on you
Once you decided to go for it, there is no way back.
That’s what I told myself when I woke up this morning.
It was 5 o’clock and the rain was gently knocking on my window.
It’s all dark these days, considering the autumn has already set it.
After taking a quick shower and drinking a bit of water, I sat at my desk, plugged my headphones and I started writing. For the next 2 hours, nothing and nobody could stopped me until I finished my article.
Once it was done, I got dressed to go to work. I usually like to edit my articles in a different session than the one in which I wrote them.
Sometimes I Find Inspiration at Work
Having a bad day at work, for me, is the perfect receipt for a great article.
And most of my work days are awful.
Plus I spend the majority of my time at work or in traffic.
London is an enormous city. It takes me one hour and a half to get to work. That for me is the only time when I detach myself a bit from work.
Beside that I am either working a job in finance or writing an article.
I usually like to use my job as a motivation or as an inspiration for some of my creations. Sometimes it works well, sometimes it doesn’t.
But I believe the best thing you can do as a writer is to find inspiration in your day to day life and put it into words in the hope that you will be able to pain the picture of your day with your own words.
Things Don’t Always Work as Planned
There are days when I struggle to find a subject to write about.
And then there are days when I write an article in half an hour.
It’s crazy to think that, although I sit at my desk for about 2–3 hours a day, in order to write and publish a quality article, I am still so inconsistent.
