In fact, before hurricanes Harvey and Irma in 2017, the United States was actually in a 12-year hurricane drought.
More than that, in the last 160 years the average number of hurricanes per decade reaching landfall has fallen. These are the conclusion drawn by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is part of the United Nations, and by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), which is part of US Department of Commerce.
