The Struggle of Starting a YouTube Channel as a Perfectionist

I’ve always wanted to be a YouTuber.

The moment this platform was bought by Google in 2006, it accelerated its growth even more.

But I remember I’ve been a fan of this platform since the beginning.

In the last 20 years I’ve watched YouTube more than TV.

And it paid out.

YouTube is my favourite online library now.

But this year I’ve started to look back at my journey on this platform and I’ve tried to come up with a new approach that will help me stick with it and eventually be able to make an income from it.

What Kind of Content I’ve Created so Far?

In January 2021 I’ve started a new YouTube channel with the idea in mind to dedicate it fully to my content creation journey.

Since then I’ve posted about 30 to 40 videos, on different topics.

But I ended up deleting all of them.

I was mainly talking about personal development and investing.

The reason I’ve started creating content on these topics was because, at that time, I was very deep into these subjects.

I was reading a lot, going to the gym, trying to advance in my career, and at the same time I also started investing and buying stocks.

So it felt natural to me to share what I’ve was learning.

What Didn’t Work?

If I look back now, I can definitely say I was trying too hard.

To make my videos look appealing to my audience I was implementing different transitions and effects and I remember editing videos for 20 to 25 hours, which at that time was too much.

Especially for somebody who was just starting out.

Filming and editing a video became my life.

This is why I couldn’t stick with it. Because I couldn’t keep up with the level of quality that I imposed on myself.

By trying to be too perfect, I ended up being too rigid.
